It is unlawful to deposit snow or ice onto any county or town road, whether or not it has been plowed.

State law prohibits snow from private properties being plowed across town or county right-of-ways and on to other private or public property.
(Section 346.94(5), Wis. Stat. states that no person may place or cause to be placed upon any highway any substance that is or may be injurious to any vehicle. A pile of icy, packed snow fits that description.)

The Town of Montana is not responsible for any damage caused to mailboxes by the process of clearing snow.

Plowing the roads means additional snow will be deposited at the end of everyone’s driveways. It is the responsibility of the landowner to clear the end of their driveway. The town plowing contractor can not be hired or requested by residents to clear driveways while on town business.

It is the responsibility of the landowner to ensure
access to the mailboxes for the mail carrier.

It is the responsibility of the landowner not to place any obstacles in the road to prevent the plows from plowing to the shoulder’s edge.
